General information for volunteers

Volunteering at IFFR is a great way to meet new people, watch films and discover talent from all over the world. Each year, an amazing team of volunteers makes sure IFFR is the best festival experience you can get. Would you like to join the team? No previous experience is required, simply take a look at the available roles and see what fits you best.

Below you’ll find the requirements, what you can expect, and how to sign up to become a volunteer at IFFR 2025.

  • Requirements

    • You are at least 18 years of age;
    • You have a good understanding of the English and/or Dutch language;
    • You are available for a minimum of 5 shifts (between 5-7 hours per shift);
    • You follow the offered training based on your role;
    • You have an EU passport/ID or EU residence permit, and are eligible to work in the Netherlands;
    • You make your own arrangements in terms of travel and accommodation as the festival does not cover such expenses;
    • You follow general volunteer guidelines and the code of conduct;
    • A friendly Tiger face and positive attitude.
  • What happens next?

    You have signed up to become a volunteer at IFFR! We look forward to welcoming you to the Tiger team. Here’s what to expect after your registration:

    New volunteers

    When you sign up as a volunteer for the first time at IFFR, we will invite you to an introductory meeting so that we can get to know each other. During the meeting, we will discuss the festival and the different volunteer teams you can join. For some roles – those that require a more specific skill set – you’ll be asked to join us for a second intake meeting. If we believe there is a good match, we will assign you to a team and inform you in December about your team placement.

    Alumni volunteers

    If you are a returning (alumni) volunteer, you will receive an email a week prior to the opening of the applications for all volunteers, to register for the upcoming festival. As a returning volunteer, you will have priority over new volunteers in selecting a role. We will process your application promptly and assign you to a team based on your preferences and experience. If you wish to fulfill a different role or if you wish to become a sub-coordinator of your team, feel free to leave a remark. You will receive the final placement information in early December.

    All volunteers

    Once we have found everyone a team to join, we will start with making schedules. For some teams, you will be asked to fill in an availability form, after which your team coordinator will send you a schedule. For other teams, you will be able to pick your own shifts in our Shiftpicker system. We will inform you of this in December.

    Whilst we eagerly await the start of the festival, we will keep you informed about what to expect. For most roles, there is a training or kick off scheduled, where you can meet your fellow volunteers, learn everything about what a shift during the festival entails, and get in the right spirit together.

    And then, it’s time! The festival gets underway and together we will ensure it is a great success!

  • What will you get in return?

    • An IFFR 2025 Volunteers kit
    • A volunteer badge for access to screenings
    • Fun social events for all volunteers
    • Food and beverages during the shift
    • Special IFFR-discounts
    • Maasstad policy insurance during the festival
    •  Relevant working experience, new contacts, the unique opportunity to experience the festival from within, and our sincere appreciation
