Golden Island

Two friends, one Papuan, one Javanese, make a film together. Going through the footage they shot, they end up discussing the conflicted relationship between Papua and the rest of Indonesia. Using humour and playfulness as its weapon of choice, Golden Island opens up space for reflection and discussion and manages to find a balance between a utopian fantasy of Papua, with its beautiful nature, and the ironic reality of land exploitation and military subjection.
