As the narrator is visited by his great-grandfather in a dream, layered and obscured narratives of the colonial era find their way into his subconsciousness. From the impact of the colonial sugar industry, to hardships of Javanese farmers, and to his father’s darkroom, he drifts through familiar yet strange scenes. Memory, time, dreams and rituals intertwine, as shadows of the past soak into the present.
