One Home to Another
Dominique van Olm combines the prodigious home movie footage of her Dutch grandfather Jan with her own images of depopulated places. This forms a poetic reflection on the process of family migration and the intergenerational influence this process creates. Alluding to van Olm’s migration from the Netherlands to Canada, sometimes using two screens side by side, One Home to Another deliberately blurs our ability to identify the points of origin and destination in history as everything enters a dreamlike weave of experience.
