For Cande Lázaro, a trans identity is intimately associated with city experience – and there is nothing fixed or static about it. How can Cande now relate to rural family roots, where only his brother respects the choice of masculine pronouns? How can Cande literally place himself within the unchanging natural landscape? Cande navigates between marcona (almond) and maricona (faggot), between dutiful farm daughter and modern urban transgressor.
