Central protagonist the series also has protagonists who are much less central Hermann Simon leaves his birthplace Schabbach in the Hunsrück and moves to Munich to study music there. On the very first day of his stay in the big city which will last years he meets the friends and a lover who will shape the next few years for him. (Hermann was also a character in the first Heimat series, he was sixteen at the time and had a relationship with a woman twelve years his senior.)It is 1960, the Beatles perform for the first time in St. Pauli in Hamburg and Adolf Eichmann is kidnapped in Argentina. But Hermann has apparently little to do with either incident.
