What is left behind
An underwater robot equipped with a camera sinks ever deeper into the sea. When it reaches the seabed, a pile of rusted weapons is illuminated in the darkness: scrap dumped into the ocean decades ago, just after the second World War, which now contributes to severe pollution of the seawater. Filmmaker and archaeologist Katja Verheul (Red Dust, IFFR 2025) uses her medium to reflect on the impact of war remnants on both humans and nature. This artistic investigation makes a large, toxic problem tangible through imagery.
