When Amarildo vanishes while fighting during the war in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, rumours of his defection shatter his family. As his brother, Sérgio, travels home to deliver the tragic news, he uncovers a curious occurrence: his young nephew, Pércio, shares a mysterious and profound connection with his missing father. Beautifully shot, Ariel Añez’s Submergido explores the intersection of personal and collective trauma, following a single family affected by war.
