With Britney Spears in the news again with her new memoir, we jump back in time to the days of her infamous head-shaving shenanigans. Hit Me Baby is the earliest of Maclean's work included in either programme, but it already shows an interest in dissecting pop culture's cannibalistic desire to both exploit and destroy the means by which it sustains itself – often women.

Programme IFFR 2024

Focus: Rachel Maclean

Scottish multimedia artist Rachel Maclean joins IFFR for two programmes of her work, spanning most of her career. Working across an impressive variety of contemporary cinematic styles from animation to AI, the films share a sinister cuteness and critical view of contemporary culture. Come enjoy the malignant machinations of the media machine, in full colour.

Rachel Maclean is also part of the this year's Art Directions programme with I'm Terribly Sorry (immersive media) and DUCK (installation).
