Marwan Hamed
Filmmaker and Lighthouse Films co-founder Marwan HAMED (1977, Egypt) has directed commercials, music videos, TV series and films in his career spanning more than 20 years. Hamed graduated from the High Institute of Cinema in 1999, and from the outset showed interest in adapting novels and literary works. His directorial debut, short film Lilly (2001), is based on a short story by renowned writer Yusuf Idris, and won him several awards including the Audience Award in the International Competition at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. His feature-length debut The Yacoubian Building (2006), one of the most expensive films made in Egypt, also picked up awards, including a Golden Eye for Best Debut at Zurich Film Festival, and the Best New Narrative Director at Tribeca Film Festival. His latest film Kira & El Gin (2022) was selected for IFFR 2023.
