Laura Amelia Guzmán

Producer, writer and filmmaker Laura Amelia GUZMÁN (1980, Dominican Republic) graduated from the Altos de Chavón Academy in the Dominican Republic, where she specialised in visual art and photography. After several photo exhibitions, she took camera lessons at the international film and television school in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. She has collaborated many times with her partner Israel Cárdenas, including for Cochochi (2007) and Carmita (2013). The pair has won awards for their work, including the Discovery Award for Cochochi at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2007. Her most recent film, La hembrita (2022), for which Cárdenas is Director of Photography and Producer, was selected for IFFR 2023.
