Alexander Kluge
Alexander KLUGE (1932, Germany) was a lawyer and writer before he became an assistant to Fritz Lang in 1958. Kluge was one of the signatories of the Oberhauser Manifesto in 1962, which marked the launch of the New German Cinema. In 1965, he was a member of the jury at the 15th Berlin International Film Festival. He went on to direct a number of films which inherently critique commercial cinema and television through the creation of a counter-public sphere and their deployment of experimental forms, including montage and his works have received many awards. In 1987, Kluge started his own television company. Together with KHAVN, also well known at IFFR, he created Happy Lamento (2018) which screened in Venice. Cosmic Miniatures (2024) had its world premiere at IFFR 2024 in the Harbour section. His newest film, Primitive Diversity (2025), will have its world premiere at IFFR 2025 in the same section.
