Pretpark Hennie

The maverick entrepreneur and multi-millionaire Hennie van der Most built a business empire from scratch. He transformed empty buildings into restaurants and amusement parks. In Pretpark Hennie, we follow the headstrong businessman as he works on what is set to be his final project: creating a large-scale theme park in Rotterdam’s Maashaven.

He turned a former nuclear reactor in Germany into a theme park, transformed an empty hospital building into a hotel and reimagined a former potato starch factory as amusement park Speelstad Oranje. Building a business empire from scratch in his incomparable way, entrepreneur Hennie van der Most became immensely rich. In 2012, the illustrious and idiosyncratic businessman started a venture that was supposed to be his magnum opus: Attractiepark Rotterdam. The grounds of a former waste disposal company located in the Rotterdam Maashaven were to be transformed into a grand amusement park.

Fast forward to 2025, and the park has still not been completed. Van der Most points the finger at bureaucratic inefficiencies, while the ever more critical City of Rotterdam speaks of shoddy work. The documentary Pretpark Hennie follows Van der Most from up close while he works towards the opening of his masterpiece, planned for his 75th birthday. Filmmaker Max Ploeg created a warm, slightly comical portrait of a determined, headstrong businessman who fights for his dream in spite of all opposition.
