Anna Atkins is credited as the first person to publish a book with photographic images, and as the first woman to make a photograph. But while her pioneering works made landmark strides for women in photography, they were not created without their own oppressive means. Ghost Protists uses Atkin’s images of protists to protest the legacy of colonialism that helped create them.
