Walid and Aida, husband and wife, are reunited after Walid’s many years spent living abroad. Answers to long-hidden secrets are sought in Sarah Francis’ careful unravelling of an estranged marriage.

On a rainy night, Aida quietly waits for her husband, Walid, to arrive back home to Lebanon after countless years spent abroad. Their reunification is uneasy, as each tries to understand the other. While Aida reflects on the dynamics of their estranged partnership, Walid grapples with the previously static, familiar comforts of his former life that have now changed. The long passage of time has taken its toll and to top it off, Aida is being secretive about their beloved dog Punto. This revelation does nothing to deflate the air of suspicion and scepticism between the two, as the couple navigates what is said and left unsaid.

Dead Dog presents a measured dissection of a marriage that is simultaneously breathing and decomposing. Sarah Francis completes her minimalist portrait with a dynamic, mood-setting synthesiser scoring that lingers in the spaces between conversations. In a work rife with carefully placed animal symbolism, all that’s left is to read between the lines of this inevitable tale.
