Sarah Francis

Filmmaker and visual artist Sarah FRANCIS grew up and studied in Beirut, Lebanon. She works across sculpture, painting, installation and digital photography: often combining these elements to create staged landscapes and live and photographed tableaus that emphasise the relationship between author and viewer. Sarah’s first feature film Touyour Ayloul/Birds of September (2013) premiered in the main competition of CPH:Dox and then screened at festivals and museums such as Art of the Real’ Lincoln Center, Stedelijk Museum, Doxa, DMZ Docs, and received several international awards. Her second feature Kama Fissamaa’ Kathalika alal ard/As Above so below (2020) premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival before touring worldwide. Her works also include video works, notably Nawal’s Rituals, produced by Ashkal Alwan in 2014. Dead Dog (2025) is her third feature film.
