Kingsley (Paul Nnadiekwe), erudite and impressionable, is struggling to make ends meet. He is fresh out of university with little to no prospects for work in sight. In addition to his mounting financial woes, his father’s health takes a turn for the worse, leaving him as the sole breadwinner for the family.
He takes an opportunity with his uncle Boniface (Blossom Chukwujekwu), a well known astute businessman and the mastermind behind a successful empire of email scams. As time passes, Kingsley becomes increasingly at odds with the illicit nature of his new job, notwithstanding the relative status and respite it offers him and his family.
Co-writer Chika Anadu and director Ishaya Bako are led by producer Chioma Onyenwe and executive producers Chinny Carter and Genevieve Nnaji, who have taken the helm of this big screening adaptation of Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani's best selling novel I Do Not Come to You by Chance (2009).
Featuring an impeccable cast, the film is a refreshingly nuanced and heart-warming narrative of a young man’s quest to be the best version of himself. At its core, Bako’s seventh feature film is a story about the allures of a Faustian bargain and the saving grace of a mother’s love.
