Pierre Bastien built his first sound automaton in 1968, aged 15. In his 40-year career, he has become a unique figure in music research, with interdisciplinary collaborations that embrace visual arts as well as fashion design. His mechanical orchestra featuring instruments from all over the world, Meccano parts and motors is a playful dive into the various possibilities of sound. His live performance for IFFR features his iconic orchestra playing with a lively group of shadows.
