RTM consists of films and projects from a broad range of makers who have a major connection to the city of Rotterdam. These makers are an eclectic mix of young/emerging talent and more experienced professionals, and established names of Rotterdam-linked filmmakers/artists who also work internationally. This block of five short films interrogates and investigates the boundaries of the medium of film in different ways, as well as focusing on art in film, both in terms of subject matter and form.

Please note: English subtitles are available only for Hier. and If Paradise Is Half As Nice. Taro and Hyena are English-language films.

    Friendly and yet determined, a number of young women show how collaboration can lead to a better future.

  • Taro

    Barbies, Sesame Street characters, and Instafilters provide support for issues concerning gender, race, and mental health.

  • Jules Deelder: Dead-Alive

    16mm footage of Jules Deelder from 1979, brought back to life with a soundtrack by jazz musician Benjamin Herman. Deelder lives!

  • Hyena

    This one-man film is mildly absurd, alienating, and surreal. Directorial debut from cameraman David Spanish who played all the roles.

  • If Paradise Is Half As Nice

    What happens when you bring a group of artists together on an abandoned industrial estate?
