‘I went to Russia as part of a touring programme of American Avant-Garde Film; we went to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg in Siberia and ended up at Lake Seliger eating fish and mushrooms. In Moscow we stayed in Yasenevo, a huge suburb. Every morning when we got up, the gent in this film was there, regular as clockwork. The day I decided to film him, though, there was no sign of him – I thought, after all, this fella is not really serious. Until he appeared, exactly an hour later, and I realised that the clocks had been put forward and the joke was on me …’ (M. Tierney)
