Short: Experimental Film from the Czech Republic
We present several Czech film makers who have been creating experimental films over the last ten years and also several Czech visual artists working recently with moving images in a systematic way. Both these areas have developed quite independently from each other, coming from different roots and presented mostly in different places (cinemas and galleries) and having different discourses (film or art criticism and history). Czech experimental cinema went through a change in the nineties: institutional support grew (studying experimental cinema at universities, contacts with foreign experimenters, occasional state financial subventions, etc.) and experimental film makers began working more consciously with previously established genres of experimental cinema (abstract film, found footage, etc.).
