The Japanese film makers Oguchi, Setoguchi and Kawase primarily share their fearlessness. They don’t shirk using the most private intimacies and feelings. The word ‘ diary’ isn’t enough to describe their film; ‘confession’ covers it better, but is too reminiscent of an interrogation and for that the films are too stimulating, too original, too funny, too crazy and too frank. Cheerful science about the female body, food and sexuality. No films for little girls. (GjZ)
