Before long, the unknown families’ outings and coffee klatches, documented in the original home movies for themselves and their children, will no longer be recognisable. In the same way as the memories of these events, the films fade. The images’ equivocality is lost, and with it their everyday nature. Chemical treatment has given these home movies a painterly quality, and the immediacy of their unspectacular everyday themes yields to the threat of transience. (Aki Beckmann)
