IFFR Filmclub x Erasmus: War and Peace?
On Tuesday 8 April, IFFR and Studium Generale are joining forces to present the event War and Peace? – a lecture and film screening on the war in Ukraine.

During War and Peace? the film Atlantis (2019) will be screened, preceded by an introduction from Slavist and expert on the war in Ukraine, Laura Starink.
About Atlantis (Valentyn Vasyanovych, 2019)
Traumatised Sergey joins volunteers who recover the bodies of fallen soldiers in eastern Ukraine. This brings him into contact with archaeologist Katya, who is literally and metaphorically digging into her past. Atlantis presents a grim but urgent portrait of Ukraine today, and the horrific consequences of the war with Russia.
About Laura Starink
Laura Starink is a Slavist, expert on Russia and Ukraine and co-founder of Raam op Rusland, Oekraïne en Belarus – the Dutch centre of expertise on society, culture and history of Russia and the former Soviet republics. Starink was a journalist for NRC Handelsblad for decades, including as a correspondent in Moscow, and is author of Post uit Rusland about 50 years of living with Russia and De Schaduw van de grote broer about, among other things, the start of the war in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
About IFFR Filmclub
Filmclub is a new initiative of IFFR, currently in the pilot phase, where (future) film lovers, young filmmakers and creatives come together to watch films and exchange interests. The idea is that the Filmclub will take place biweekly at various locations throughout Rotterdam, where a mix of (inter)national films, both new and true classics, will be shown in a relaxed setting in combination with discussions, workshops or parties. Whether you are discovering cinema for the first time or are already well on your way as a filmmaker, the Filmclub is a place to get inspired, network or just come and watch a film. The club works together with local communities throughout Rotterdam.
Tickets are free (reservation is required)
