Tanaka Toshihiko

Before starting out in the film industry, Japanese stage actor and filmmaker TOSHIHIKO Tanaka attended the business studies programme at University of Michigan in the United States. During the Covid-19-Pandemic he became more interested in film production and the idea of his debut film Rei (2024), winner of teh Tiger Award at IFFR 2024, was born. The displayed intersection between the beauty of nature and the dark side of humanity is a crucial characteristic in Toshihiko’s work. The film also won Best Feature Film at the Lucca Film Festival and earned a Special Mention at Art Film Fest Košice. He later served as a jury member at the Cartagena International Film Festival. He is currently developing a Hokkaido Trilogy, with Rei (2024) and Shumari, CineMart supported, as the first two entries.
