José Álvaro Morais
José Álvaro MORAIS (1943–2004, Portugal) was born in Coimbra. He first studied medicine and started his film career as a writer and director in 1967, as an assistant to António-Pedro Vasconcelos. He then attended the INSAS in Brussels. In 1978 he made the documentary Ma Femme Chamada Bicho (1976). O Bobo (1987) on which he worked for six years, was his first feature and won the Golden Leopard at the 1987 Locarno International Film Festival. José passed away on 30 January 2004 in Lisbon, Portugal.
