Heidi Piiroinen
Heidi PIIROINEN (Finland) is a filmmaker and photographer based in Helsinki. Her background includes work as a photojournalist for Helsingin Sanomat, one of Finland’s largest newspapers, and her practice spans documentary image-making, experimental processes and expanded cinematic forms. She studied Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art (ViCCA) and was a visiting scholar in documentary production at the University of California, Berkeley (2015–2016). Piiroinen has received several awards, including the Patricia Seppälä Foundation Photojournalism Award (2020) and the PHMUSEUM Mobile Photo Prize (2019). She was an artist-in-residence at Light Cone’s Atelier 105 in Paris in 2025. Her short film I am a River (2026) marks a new development in her moving-image work.
