Gurcius Gewdner
Gurcius GEWDNER (1982, Brazil) is a screenwriter, editor, producer and director. He began his career in the Brazilian underground scene with scatological-Dadaist anti-music performances with his group Os Legais in the mid-1990s. Self-taught but with a background in History, he developed an interest in performance art and experimental music that led him to filmmaking alongside his musical projects. Among dozens of shorts and features, his notable films include the cult titles Pazucus: Island of Vomit and Despair (2017) and Mamilos em Chamas (2008). He is an important figure in the gore production company Canibal Filmes and has collaborated with prominent Brazilian filmmakers such as Ivan Cardoso, Petter Baiestorf, Ligia Marina and Gustavo Vinagre. His films have screened at festivals including Sitges, IFFR and Karlovy Vary.
