Saeed Nouri
Saeed NOURI (1974, Iran) began his cinematographic studies in Iran with a degree from the Sooreh Institute and subsequently followed a Master’s degree in film direction from the University of Art, Tehran. He made four short films before leaving Tehran for Paris and participated in more than thirty film festivals. He founded the Wings of Desire Institute in 2014 and has produced two fiction films and several documentaries. He continued his studies in France, obtaining a PhD in cinema studies in 2013 from the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin. Member of the Cinémathèque Française between 2006 and 2012, he took part in debates and film critiques under the direction of Jean Douchet and Nicole Brenez. He made five short documentaries about Iranian filmmakers in exile. His cinematographic research has led him to interview many Iranian filmmakers, resulting in several books published and over 20 short film workshops in Iran and France. He continues filmmaking in both fiction and documentary. Sifting through 10,000 hours of film in order to highlight women’s film roles between 1932 and 1997 gave him enough material for directing Women According to Men, a film-excerpt collage screened at IFFR in 2020. His newest feature, Tehran, An Unfinished History, will have its world premiere at IFFR 2025.
