Margit Lukács
Margit LUKÁCS and Persijn Broersen are an Amsterdam-based artist duo whose work examines the relationship between nature, culture, and technology. The two artists graduated in Graphic Design from the Rietveld Academie Amsterdam, completed an MFA at the Sandberg Institute and were artists at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Broersen and Lukács explore the connections between the histories of the relationship between culture and nature in their work, rooted in their interest in media, music and technology. They interweave this with the politics of representing and appropriating nature, drawn from mythological, (art) historical, scientific and cinematic sources. Their work consists of films, installations and performances in which the mythologies/origins of actual and fictional natural phenomena are unravelled and retold from multiple perspectives. In 2016, their short film Establishing Eden was selected for IFFR’s Tiger Short Competition. Their work has been exhibited in renowned institutions and organisations worldwide, including Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, MacKenzie Art Gallery, Centraal Museum Utrecht, Centre Pompidou, Cultural Capital City of Europe Esch and the Biennale of Sydney. They represented the Netherlands at the Gwangju Biennale 2024 in Korea.
