Delphine Seyrig
Delphine SEYRIG (1932, Lebanon) was a Lebanese-born French actress and director. She studied drama in Paris and at the Actors Studio in New York. Initially a stage actress, she came to prominence in Alain Resnais’s Last Year at Marienbad (1961). She later went on to win the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her title role in Muriel (1963). She starred in more than 30 subsequent films, such as François Truffaut’s Stolen Kisses (1968) and Luis Buñuel’s The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972). In later years, Seyrig allied herself with the French feminist movement and collaborated closely with Swiss filmmaker and activist Carole Roussopoulos on directing the S.C.U.M. Manifesto (1976). As a filmmaker, she is best known for the 1981 feminist documentary Sois Belle et Tais-Toi/Be Pretty and Shut Up (1981).
