Arturo Ripstein
Arturo RIPSTEIN (1943, Mexico) began his career as assistant director to Luis Buñuel in El ángel exterminador. He made his own film debut with Time to Die (1966), a Mexican Western with a script by Colombian novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Since the eighties, he has collaborated with his wife, scriptwriter Paz Alicia Garcíadiego. In 1997, Ripstein was awarded the National Prize for Arts and Sciences by the Mexican government, making him the second filmmaker (after Luis Buñuel) to receive the prize.
