Director David Verbeek presents a dark and unpredictable fairytale in which a girl raised by wolves finds herself in our modern society. With the world on fire and set for climate disaster, she learns what it is to be human.
Director David Verbeek is always one step ahead of the viewer in The Wolf, the Fox & the Leopard, an unconventional, unpredictable drama about a girl raised by wolves. When she is found deep in the forest among wild animals, she gets whisked away to be examined in a lab. She is taken in by two environmental activists who treat her as their own daughter and bring her to an oil rig in the middle of the sea. While the world is set for a devastating climate catastrophe, the girl learns what it is to be human.
The ninth film by David Verbeek is a multi-layered, dark, science fiction fairytale. AfterDead & Beautiful (IFFR 2021), the director returns to Rotterdam with an intriguing spectacle about the clash between humankind and nature. Jessica Reynolds (Kneecap, 2024) delivers a punchy performance as the lead character and convinces with her physical and emotional portrayal of a feral girl. Japanese director and IFFR-regular Naomi Kawase is the narrator.
