Jackie Chan and Tony Leung Ka Fai face off in a Macau-set thieves-and-cops battle of wits and agility. A retired surveillance expert is called back to service to train and lead the elite “Adorable Unit” with one mission: track down and arrest mysterious criminal mastermind The Shadow and his gang.
A gang led by mastermind Fu Longsheng a.k.a. The Shadow (Tony Leung Ka Fai) steals billions in cryptocurrency and elegantly escapes the police, casually hacking the formidable security surveillance system, outsmarting them on the ground and disappearing into the streets of Macau. To counter the thieves who can turn any hi-tech system into their toy, the police invite their retired surveillance expert Wong Tak-Chung (Jackie Chan) to train and lead the elite “Adorable Unit” in low-tech ways. What’s guaranteed is that this old-school thieves-and-police chase in penumbra will test everyone’s wits, nerves and loyalties.
Directed by Larry Yang, The Shadow’s Edge is a Chinese remake of the Hong Kong policier Eye in the Sky (Yau Nai-hoi, 2007), with Leung Ka Fai reprising the role of the mysterious gang leader, whose face has never been captured on camera. The different energies he and Jackie Chan bring on screen add tension to the engaging and refreshingly analogue police action, impressive fight scenes, stunts and explosions. Because sometimes, letting old dogs do their own old tricks is the best way of doing things.
