Feeling stuck in life, Jonathan experiences a renaissance when he meets Sore, his wife from the future. But the weight of Jonathan’s past dooms Sore to save him again and again. A sumptuous, time-hopping romantic saga about the contradictions of human relationships.
Would you change your true self if your destiny demanded it? Globetrotting photographer Jonathan faces this dilemma when he wakes up next to Sore, an ethereal woman who claims to be his wife from the future. Incredulous at first, Jonathan warms up to the mysterious visitor after she ushers positive changes into his life. Sore, however, has her own motivations for this journey back in time.
In Sore: A Wife from the Future, Indonesian filmmaker Yandy Laurens fashions a swoon-inducing, time-traveling romantic saga for the ages. Laurens dispenses with logical explanations, trusting viewers to figure out the ground rules as the high-concept story unfolds. The focus is instead on the human drama – the necessary yet impossible task of renewing a relationship over and over again.
As the narrative perspective oscillates between the fated lovers, played with remarkable subtlety and precision by Sheila Dara Aisha and Dion Wiyoko, Laurens’ sumptuously made film takes on an epic, tragic dimension.
