Fabula
Jos, born into a family haunted by disaster and determined to find out what caused it meets a series of colourful characters who slowly bring him closer to the explanation he’s been searching for. A crime comedy with a touch of fantasy and folklore.
Twelve years after his debut film De ontmaagding van Eva van End (IFFR 2013), Michiel ten Horn returns to IFFR with Fabula: a crime comedy with a touch of fantasy, folklore and magical realism.
Limburg’s rich history provides the backdrop for the story of Jos, a strung-out criminal from a family that for generations has been haunted by disaster. Jos is rarely taken seriously by his wife, daughter and friends. When a big drug deal goes wrong, he has a lot to put right and a personal journey begins: why is the world always against him? Especially now, about to become a grandfather, the question seems more important than ever.
Fedja van Huêt shines in the role of the unhappy Jos, as he meets a series of colourful characters who may or may not help him on his quest. In this way, he gets closer and closer to the origins of his eternal unhappiness, driven by the hope of finding a way to put an end to it once and for all.
