The intersections of the gaming and filmmaking cultures are explored in this talk, moderated by real-time media artist and curator Vincent Moulinet. Filmmakers from this years’ Tiger Short Competition and Art Directions Installations come together to discuss how their works highlight the paradoxes of logic, autonomy and emotional engagement by blurring the boundaries between film, gaming and choreography.
Members of collective Total Refusal (World at Stake, IFFR 2025), Viktor Timofeev (Alice, Bob, Carol and David, IFFR 2025) and Yuan Zheng (Hepingli Playthrough, IFFR 2025) will delve into the art of manipulating footage from existing and non-existing video games in order to lay bare underlying rules of “the game” and to reflect on the state of the world in a playful way.
