It begins with the on-the-clock rhythms of a bank employee’s routine work, follows with the tightness and tension of a heist film, and segues into a demented 'business proposal' that feels more like blackmail. During its three hours, divided into two parts, Rodrigo Moreno’s Los delincuentes deploys many mutations and detours: from city to country, from the comically stressful to placid leisure, from the heavily structured to the freedom of loose ends, from a one-man deed to a study of intertwined duplicity, from the purely materialistic to the mystically romantic…
In the trail of the overflowing narratives of the cinema of Argentina in the twenty-first century, Los delincuentes turns out to be many films in one: when you think you’ve figured it out, it darts away. There is, however, a strong theme running throughout that gives cohesion to the whole: the obsessive, contagious call for a second chance, the seductive siren’s song whispering the tale of another possible life existing outside the obligations and timetables imposed by capitalism. Presented at IFFR's CineMart in 2016, Moreno and his team have been developing Los delincuentes since 2006. One has the impression that it has grown wild and free, like the dreams you don’t let go of.
