Colectivo Los Ingrávidos (Tehuacán, Mexico) have amassed a body of work consisting of over five hundred films in just over twelve years, representing some of the most thoughtful, political and technically spectacular films in the contemporary global avant-garde. Deeply rooted in their mesoamerican heritage and the milieu that represents, their works seamlessly weave together themes of trance, ritual, protest and resistance that reflect an ethos that is staunchly anti-capitalist, anti-colonial and anti-mass media.
Their IFFR Focus programme includes works on film, video and found footage, and includes some earlier films as well as three World Premieres: Colmillos (2024), Seeds(2024) and Ritual (2024). This Talk will explore themes present in those two programmes as well as their dialectical approach to avant-garde cinema.
