Déjà Vu stems from the artist's experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. The video features an orchestrated performance on the occasion of her own exhibition opening in Shanghai, which she was unable to attend. She hired a group of twenty extras, dressed like her, to film the event and convey her speech to the guests. These images, captured through spy cams worn by her lookalikes, alternate with images filmed by a camera attached to the neck of a white duck at an animal shelter in Geneva. In essence, the film deals with the absence of human presence, and the sense of displacement, which after more than two years of pandemic restrictions is more relatable to many of us than ever before.
