Ladyworld

It was supposed to be a fun pyjama party, in Eden’s parents’ basement. Instead, eight girls are trapped following a serious earthquake, with no water or electricity. The birthday cake, diet soft drink, and cheap wine gradually run out, and their telephone batteries won’t last forever either. But, the worst thing is the threatening presence of a man in the house. At least, one of the girls says so. Then she promptly disappears without a trace.

The longer the girls are stuck in the house, the more extreme their behaviour, emotions, and make-up become. A power struggle develops between bossy bully Piper and level-headed Olivia. Aided by the strong ensemble cast, Amanda Kramer is able to tackle human psychological themes in this delirious thriller – not shying away from showing these girls in an unsympathetic light, with nasty, aggressive traits. Sound plays a pivotal role in creating the atmosphere. The soundtrack by Callie Ryan contains a collection of high-pitched sighs, mournful meows, and reedy singing that really gets under your skin.
