The day starts quietly enough in this Indian village, with the daily routine of waking up, getting meat from the butcher and going to church. Preparations are underway for a wedding. But that evening, everything changes when a water buffalo escapes just as it was due to be slaughtered.
The men of the village set off on a wild, uncoordinated hunt. The beast flees into the forest, where several times the men almost manage to recapture it. Men from other villages also get involved. As does the infamous Kuttachan, fresh out of prison, who claims he will get the animal – but he also has unfinished business with an old rival.
The men become ever more frenzied as the adrenaline and testosterone builds. This culminates in a bizarre climax with a clear message: men and beasts are not so very different from one another after all.
