The style reminiscent of ethnographic and propaganda films of yesteryear; men and families are filmed in an immediate, uncompromising manner with no sound, in black-and-white and on 16mm. You keep watching despite the wrenching poverty and hopelessness you’d rather not see as well as director Artur Żmijewski’s testing of the boundaries of what is, and isn’t acceptable.
