In a small community in the countryside of Croatia, ghosts from the past still roam around. When the 60-year-old farm labourer Ivo can’t get to sleep, he heads into the fields on his tractor. One night he helps a woman who’s become stranded in a car without fuel. He drives her to a filling station, where the attendant hesitatingly warns the woman. Ivo once raped a woman. He served his sentence, but people didn’t forget. In concentrated style without frills, Zvonimir Juric shows how this night filled with hidden threat develops. We follow the taciturn Ivo and the woman, who tries to keep fear at bay, the filling pump attendant who is affected by events and doesn’t feel like attending his brother’s party and finally a policeman who becomes involved. References to the war 20 years ago mean that Ivo’s desire to put his crime behind him acquires a broader significance.
