Prix UIP 2005 – Short Film Nominees for the European Film Awards 2005
Prix UIP 2005 – Nominees for the European Film Academy Short Film AwardThe Prix UIP is an initiative by distributor United International Pictures and the European Film Academy (EFA) in Berlin, and has existed for five years. The prize is intended to focus more attention on short film. 14 festivals (including Berlin and Venice) nominate European films of 15 minutes or less. At each festival, one of the nominated films is awarded the Prix UIP, worth 2,000 euro. The 14 winning films are automatically nominated for the European Film Academy Short Film Award given every year in early December. The winner receives 10,000 euro. The International Film Festival Rotterdam is taking part in this initiative for the first time this year. 15 titles have been nominated for the Prix UIP Rotterdam, varying from a genre exercise to a homage to silent cinema. The films make one thing very clear: that short film is extremely vital and diverse. The festival is also showing all the earlier winners of the Prix UIP (see below), as a one-off event.
