Curated by Mark McElhatten ‘Ghostreader’ in the first instance because all that is seen by definition of sight is never the thing itself but a phantom image; secondly, in its translation into a visual work, the relay often goes out from the screen to an anonymous viewer whose interpretation is unknown. The world composes itself here in the brightest and darkest silvers and we are ghostreading this ghostwriting – ‘the visual opulence of the stilled thing, seen’, as Jorie Graham has written. Small agitations of light and gesture sound the depths in these four works of telling silence.
