Shot in Rome in the 1980s and inspired by the Baroque architecture and stone carvings of Borromini and a painting by the Sienese Il Sassetta, The Hedge Theater is one of Beavers' most richly achieved works, taking full advantage of the sumptuous imagery and the subtlety of sound possible on 35mm.
