Film about Friedrich Ermler (18981967), whose artistic work was a heroic attempt to bring the new, Soviet world into a harmony with its tradition. Kovalov wanted to show the peculiarity of Ermler’s art and, at the same time, through using his film fragments, to rewrite the biography of the country he lived in.
