A young woman inherits a spooky hotel in Louisiana. Despite the warnings of a blind woman, she doesn't realise that in the hotel, once built on the Seven Gates of Hell, zombies are searching for victims they can doom for eternity.Fulci was a great craftsman and a sarcastic great; this film provides evidence of both. He allowed himself to be inspired by Dario Argento's Inferno and George Romero's Zombi and does not leave any effect from the gore genre unturned. A devilish tempo, sadism and irony are the characteristics of Fulci's horror films, with which he had great success in the eighties, just as twenty years earlier with his comedies. Quentin Tarrantino recently stated in an interview that L'aldilà is one of the finest portrayals of hell he knows. (SdC)
