Comédia infantil is set in Mozambique. One night baker José sees the street kid Nelio lying wounded on the stage of the local theatre. Nelio is bleeding profusely, he has just been shot. What happened? The film is Nelio's story as he tells it to José. The young Nelio is living in a rural village when it is threatened by soldiers. He has to flee. On his journey he gets to know a dwarf and an albino girl. They get up to mischief with street kids from the big city and see a lot of suffering. The film ends more or less where it started: with Nelio in the arms of José.The film was shot entirely in Mozambique, with local actors and street kids playing themselves. With the insight of an outsider, the Swedish director managed to focus sharply on the specific characteristics of a culture. All the locations are authentic.
